Core Requirements for the Production of Artificial Food Additives

Raw material compliance requires the use of "food-grade chemical raw materials" (such as food-grade hydrochloric acid and potassium hydroxide), prohibiting the use of industrial-grade raw materials (which may contain heavy metals and harmful impurities). Raw materials must comply with relevant national standards (such as GB 1886.1-2015, "National Food Safety Standard - Food Additives - Hydrochloric Acid").

Reaction Control and Byproduct Management

By employing precise temperature control (e.g., jacketed reactors), pH control (automatic dripping system), and inert gas protection technologies, the generation of byproducts (such as the over-chlorination products of sucralose and azo impurities in tartrazine) is reduced.

Byproducts must be completely removed through purification steps (such as distillation and HPLC separation), and the residual amount must comply with national standards (e.g., azo compounds in tartrazine ≤0.01%).

Hygiene and Impurity Control

The production workshop must comply with the "General Hygiene Standard for Food Additive Production" (GB 31647-2018), divided into a "clean area" (purification, molding, and packaging) and a "general area" (raw material pretreatment) to avoid microbial contamination (total bacterial count in the finished product ≤1000 CFU/g);

Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury) must be controlled through raw material screening and ion exchange resin removal, with residual levels strictly complying with national standards (e.g., lead ≤0.001% in all synthetic additives).

Full traceability is established, creating a complete ledger from "raw material procurement → production records → finished product inspection → warehousing," with each batch of products accompanied by an "inspection report" to ensure traceability in case of problems.

Summary: Core Characteristics of Artificial Synthesis Processes

Advantages: High output (meets industrial needs), low cost (e.g., readily available chemical raw materials), stable performance (e.g., lemon yellow color does not fade easily, sucralose sweetness is stable);

Key Challenges: Precise control of reaction direction (avoiding byproducts), strict removal of impurities (ensuring safety), and increased consumer trust (requiring compliance proof of safety).

Artificial food additives produced through the above process, as long as they meet national standards for use, have been proven to be safe for human health and are an indispensable part of the modern food industry.
